...or is it an abandoned warehouse?
Once again, this is not the condo I originally contacted the realtor (let's call him "Mikey") about, this is a different one in the same complex. Love the location; hate, hate, hate the decor.
Mikey was telling me all about how the complex had been purchased and renovated by a developer; the unit I was looking at had been newly remodeled.
Really? Someone actually wanted it to look like this? WTF?

(A still from Season 1 of Prison Break.)
Seriously. "Penitentiary Gray" is the only thing that comes to mind when I try to imagine a name for the shade of paint on these walls.
And the downstairs floors are concrete that has been "finished" with some hideous shade of yellow.
If I bought this place I would have to hire someone to repaint the entire thing, because the ceilings are too high to do it myself. And I don't know what the hell I'd do about the floors. Sweet Jeebus, they were awful.
The kitchen was awesome though.
The metal railings everywhere would be ok if the walls were a different color.
And at least the upstairs floors were nice--hardwood bamboo.
Anyway, I disliked this one less than the other ones I've seen--it had the potential to be a nice place to live. But it was priced at close to $200k (the absolute top limit of my price range) and who knows how much extra I'd need to spend to make look the way I'd want it to?
Yes, I'm probably every realtor's worst nightmare--an insanely picky person with not much money who hates commuting and is therefore only willing to live within a very limited geographical area. (Which unfortunately is the most ridiculously overpriced area in the city).
I also looked at another condo in the same complex I toured last Thursday (the owner was home, so I didn't take pictures). This one was a 3rd floor unit with vaulted ceilings and a third bedroom. It was nicer than the other ones in that complex, but I still didn't love it.
I was expecting to walk into one of these places and think "Oh my God, I have to buy this," but so far it's a contest of which sucks less. Blech.
Silly me, thinking that house hunting was going to be fun...

Call me crazy, but I really like the industrial look.
That place is very, very contemporary. You have to really like that style in order to buy it. I am surprised that a developer would choose to remodel like that because it's being very risky when it comes to people falling in love with the place.
Don't give up! I am living through you, you know. :)
LOL. Yes, contemporary is a good word. Needless to say, I was surprised by the choice of decor too.
If not for the horrible gray walls and the concrete floors, it would be ok.
But the thought of close to $200k in mortgage debt for a place that I think is just "ok" makes me want to cry.
