Underwhelmed

I looked at two condos Thursday night. It was a thoroughly depressing experience.

There was nothing wrong with either of them, but everything about the complex reminded me of the first apartment complex I lived in when I moved to SLC (where absolutely nothing good happened to me—the year and a half I spent there was the worst of my life).

They were nicer than that, of course, but the design of the buildings, and the size and layout of the individual units was incredibly similar. Even the people I saw as I wandered around looking for the correct building seemed the same as the people that had lived in my old apartment complex. It was almost like stepping back in time… *shudder*

Emotional context aside, neither condo was worth the asking price. $170,000-175,000 for a glorified apartment is a ripoff, IMO. Each place was only 891 sq. feet, and the kitchens were even smaller than the one in my current apartment, which I didn’t think was possible. There was no place for a washer or dryer in either unit, but while I was waiting in the hallway for the realtor to show up, I could hear a washing machine running in the laundry room upstairs. Awesome.

Anyway, the pictures are of the first one I looked at. It was totally empty and very clean. In the second one, the owners were home watching TV. Awkward!

Tonight I’m going to look at a different complex—this is the one I had actually contacted the realtor about, and was going to take a tour of awhile back. If it’s as depressing as condos 1 and 2, I think I’m done house hunting.
