Sinus pain go away...

So I finally had an appointment with an ear, nose and throat specialist today to find out why I get horrible sinus headaches all the time. They took a CT scan of my sinuses. It was pretty cool--the machine was small, sort of like the panoramic x-ray at the dentist's office, and it took less than a minute.

Once the digital images started showing up on the computer screen, it became really interesting. I got terrible grades in my college anatomy class (the main reason I gave up on going to med school, but that's another story), and even I could tell that my sinus anatomy was seriously messed up.

It turns out I have a severely deviated septum. It's a huge relief to finally know what's wrong with me.

And it can be fixed using a surgical procedure called septoplasty with turbinate reduction. It is done on an outpatient basis, and the actual procedure usually takes less than 90 minutes, and seems pretty straightforward.

I'm having it done at the end of June. Wish me luck!

I should have gone to see an ENT years ago. Seriously. Then this would all be over with, I'd be able to breathe normally, and I wouldn't be suffering from these nasty sinus headaches anymore. The physician assistant and doctor I spoke with today were great, and seemed really knowledgable, and took my concerns seriously. All of the other staff members in the office were very nice too. I'd highly recommend them.
